Georgia Southwestern shines a light for Nurses Week and Nurses Light Up the Sky initiative

AMERICUS, Ga. (May 8, 2025)—In celebration of (May 6-12) and the #NursesLightUpTheSky initiative, Çï¿ûÊÓƵ (GSW) is illuminating the Wheatley Administration Building and Carter I of the Rosalynn Carter Health and Human Sciences Complex red to honor the nursing profession. GSW joins communities across the nation in recognizing the vital contributions nurses make to healthcare and education.

Landmarks, healthcare institutions and iconic buildings across the country are being lit up in celebration. This nationwide initiative shines a literal light on nurses, raises public awareness of their impact and encourages communities to express appreciation for these healthcare heroes.

The American Nurses Enterprise announced this year’s theme as “Celebrating the Power of Nurses”—a tribute to the strength, resilience and compassion that define the profession.

Courtney Ross, DHA, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, expressed his appreciation to GSW’s nursing faculty and staff. “Your dedication to educating and mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals is commendable. You instill in our students the knowledge, skills and compassion necessary to provide exceptional care. Your commitment to excellence shapes not only their careers, but also the future of healthcare. Continue to let your light shine!”

GSW is proud to celebrate its outstanding nursing faculty, staff and students, as well as the support from campus leadership and the surrounding community. With a nationally- recognized nursing program and state-of-the-art facility, GSW continues to be a beacon for healthcare education in Southwest Georgia.

Partnering with American Nurses Association during National Nurses Week offers GSW an extraordinary opportunity to stand in solidarity with over 5 million nurses across the country in this high-impact moment of recognition and gratitude.
